Backhand Power Control 2.0
We have radically improved the backhand power control derived from our 4-Wave and 5-Wave sails. The LTD offers more agility and release but the same powerful low-speed pull that the 4-Wave is known for. By defining the sail's profile with a special material mix (instead of built-in pre-profile), we can control the twist in the sail body in a unique way that provides extra power when you need it. The overall wind range has been significantly extended with improved high-speed control.
Adaptive Wind Release (AWR)
The all-new AWR system takes backhand power control to the next level. Open AWR releases the wind more efficiently and moves the power point slightly forward for a more playful, forgiving feel without compromising early planing. Closed AWR provides a more locked, powerful feel with extra backhand power – best for fully powered conditions and bump-and-jump. Unlike downhaul, you can change the AWR setting without changing the basic shape of the sail.
Aerofit Boom Positioning (ABP)
By reducing the open area at the leading edge of the sail, aerodynamics are improved and the overall range of use increases. The sail body moves less in the boom area, making the sail more stable in gusts and faster in rotations. Always open at least two sections to mount the boom.
Power Panel Design
The key to the LTD's efficiency is the wide outline in the middle of the sail combined with a relatively short boom. The panel above the boom – the "power panel" – provides controlled drive, while the narrow top ensures a soft clew-first feel. Feel free to rig your 4-Wave LTD 0.2–0.5 sqm smaller than usual for faster rotations, more radical turns, and better wipeout resistance.
Freeflow-battens
The batten angles are carefully adjusted for better release in top turns and big jumps. The LTD feels lighter and more lively than the original 4-Wave. A stiffer batten construction above the boom locks the power further forward and extends the wind range in difficult, gusty conditions.
Rigging Correctly
Choose the mast according to the recommendation, but feel free to experiment with stiffness – a softer mast makes the sail more lively but less powerful, a stiffer base provides more profile and power in the boom area. Open two ABP sections for best performance. Set AWR according to your riding style (closed = powerful, open = playful). Set the downhaul according to your style and rarely move it during the session – instead, use outhaul to trim power and directness while sailing.
